Phew, what a year!

December 2020 saw Jupiter and Saturn cross each other's paths to create a phenomenon known as the Great Conjunction. People around the world broke out the binoculars to witness this event, and the predictions of a change in our fortunes flowed in. Whether you're an astronomer, an astrologer, a skeptic or just plain curious, it's hard to deny that the energy around here has been a little more positive lately - after a year that the entire world would like to forget, we are all in a hurry to move on into something great!

2020 has been a year unlike any other, with a lot of scary, challenging and uncertain times. Yet through all this, there were a lot of positives. People had more time with their families. People had time to sit and think about what was really important in their lives. And a lot of people (a lot!), took this opportunity to start something they'd always wanted to do: learn a musical instrument.

Music has always been a source of comfort, expression, distraction, excitement and fun to a lot of people, and it seemed natural that during this turbulent year, many people sought refuge in it's comforting vibes. And we were there the whole time, to guide and support people with all their musical needs. From the start of the year, our team, our range, and our family of customers just kept growing, and growing, and growing! We have been so excited to see so many people begin and progress on their musical journey.

From professional musicians, to production crew, to schools, churches, businesses, work-from-home set ups, home recording artists, kids looking for their first instrument, big kids looking for their first instrument - we are here, equipped and ready to assist, with our ever-expanding range and our professional, friendly team of experts.

Not to mention our biggest news of the year: in 2020, Marian hung up the Music Spot boots after 27 successful years, and handed the reigns over to our new owners, Hamish & Danni. With a wealth of knowledge and experience under their belts, our new directorship is leading us into 2021 with a fresh, enthusiastic attitude and a slew of exciting new stock!

And so as we close out the year, we would like to say thank you, from the bottom of our hearts. Thank you for trusting us to assist you with your musical needs. Thank you for the opportunity to support you in the future as you build your musical dream. And thank you for the amazing year that we have just had together.

Tanglewood Crossroads

The Crossroads series pays homage to the style & sound of classic instruments from 1930’s America. Tanglewood set out to create an instrument that evokes these traditional values, and commissioned the services of a very special luthier, Michael Sanden, the man behind Tanglewood Masterdesign. 

Michael starts with the tree, selecting timbers that will sound good together, making the soundboards a precise measurement so they will flex and respond to the players attack, and then he braces the instrument with his own patterns to make each instrument have its own personality.

It’s not just the special bracing, or the woods that are selected, or the construction method even. All these are vital components for any guitar, but on Crossroads Michael wanted to create something special.

He wanted to make a guitar that could have the sound that any musician, professional or amateur, could appreciate. He wanted to make the guitar look authentic to the 1930’s era, adding a wonderful dark tobacco burst stain to the timbers to make the Crossroads guitars look historic and simply elegant. And he demanded that the neck profiles and bridge contouring and fret inlaying should be implemented without regard to the price of manufacturing, to proudly reflect the Tanglewood ethos of outstanding value and performance.

A New Era Begins at The Music Spot!

 

This week marks the next step in the journey of The Music Spot.

After 27 years, founder and owner Marian Williams is moving into a well-deserved retirement, and General Manager Hamish and his wife Danni have purchased the business.

Hamish and Danielle bring a wealth of customer service experience. Hamish has over 20 years of experience in Musical Instrument Retail & Wholesale having worked at Toombul Music, Allans Music, Musiclink Australia, Music Express and Just Percussion. Danni is a 20 year veteran of the hospitality industry, working in a variety of management roles and currently owns the cafe Espresso 351 in Taigum, which she has built up over the last three years into a much loved destination for family get togethers and delicious food.

From humble beginnings in 1993, Marian has built The Music Spot into what it is today: a strong, family-based local business that has supported the local music industry, and establised relationships with many wonderful team members, customers, schools, churches and suppliers.

There have been so many wonderful people supporting the store from its infancy and we look forward to maintaining and strengthening those relationships as we move into this new era.

Marian will still be popping in once a week over the next few months so you will still have an opportunity to come in and say goodbye and thank you.

We would like to thank Marian for this opportunity to continue what she has created and we will always be grateful for her time and effort that has gone into such a wonderful business.
