Doorbuster Sale on TOMORROW!

Some (Really!) Good News For Musos!

It's a pretty exciting time here at The Music Spot, because TOMORROW we are having our once-in-a-lifetime DOORBUSTER SALE!

The balloons and streamers are up, the prices are set to be SLASHED on some really great items, and our team are full of protein shakes and ready to be run off their feet. So in case you've somehow missed all the excitement up till now, let me reiterate: tomorrow, Saturday 30th June, from 9am till 4pm, we are having the BIGGEST one-day sale in our HISTORY. And we have some SERIOUSLY GOOD items on sale too - like a Fender 65 Strat at 55% off, down to $1999; or an Ibanez RG752FX 7 String Electric down 70% to only $599 - a huge 50% off on all our acoustic Drum Kits - and heaps more, with some items slashed to 87% off. This is BIG! Don't miss out!!

The other good thing about this time of year is that three letter word: TAX!

Ok it might not strike excitement into the heart quite as much as the words "Doorbuster Sale", but if you play your cards right, this can be a pretty exciting event too. Did you know that Musicians can claim a bunch of expenses and get a juicy refund at the end of it? Let's have a look.

Most musicians travel a lot for their work. So keep good records about the travelling you do - a log book is the best way to do this, and you can use an app on your phone for that. The ATO actually has it's own app which is great for not only the log book, but also storing and filing receipts. Technology making life easier!

There are a LOT of things you can claim as business expenses, probably best that I give you this link rather than try to list them here. Australian Musician magazine also has a great article with tips you should know, which you can see here

Make sure you record all your income correctly too. That includes things like grants as well as your performance fees and merch sales.

If you put a little effort into your record keeping, you will reap the rewards at the end - and when you get that big juicy refund, we can help you spend it too!

Our Favourite Products this week are our Line 6 amplifiers.

Let's begin with our cute little lunchbox amp, the Amplifi-30. A compact and affordable way to get the great tones you'd expect from a much larger amp. Then we have the Spider Classic 15, a modelling amp inspired by the Spider IV 15, the amp that powered a break through for a generation of guitarists. If you want something big, strong and versatile, how about the Spider V 60, with full-range speakers that sound great with acoustic guitar, electric guitar or your music collection, and is fully wireless-ready. You've got no excuses with this line-up!

RuralAid - Giving the Gift of Music

Have you heard of Rural Aid? It is a not-for-profit organisation who help provide hay to farmers in need.

They also run a program called Gift of Music which provides instruments to children in remote indigenous schools.

Last week a group of eight Brisbane blokes got together with Evan from String Tech who kindly offered to service and repair donated orchestral strings instruments pro bono.

Evan also received support from two musical instrument importers, National Music and F Payton & Son, who kindly donated parts for the instruments.

The boys had a great day together sharing their skills and were able to repair 15 instruments, which will find their new homes during the upcoming Brisbane Regional Youth Orchestra tour to western Queensland.

If you have any playable instruments that you no longer need and you would like to donate them to a worthy cause, you can drop them off to The Music Spot and we will pass them on for you, or go direct to the Rural Aid website giftofmusic.org.au and donate direct.

This is a nice story of eight Aussie blokes from the city digging deep to give some bush kids a chance of experiencing the gift of music.

Please help these confused boys!

It's just dawned on our staff that it's Stocktake Time again, and they've realised that they will have to count ALL. THE. STOCK.

That is, of course, unless YOU come in and buy it first, so they don't have to count it! So with that in mind, we have slashed prices across the store, and are getting ready for our HUGE Doorbuster Sale at the end of the month - and then straight into our 25th Birthday Sale in the first week of July! It's all happening down at The Music Spot, and things are disappearing fast, so if you've had your eye on something for a while, now is definitely the time to come down!

The store is getting ready - piles and piles of new stuff arriving and the sense of excitement in the air..

Well, after the unpacking was done, that is :P The new shop layout is working brilliantly and we have some really cool new items coming in, so if you haven't been down in a while, it's a good time to check back and see what we've got!

And one of our favourite lines to stock are our Vox amps. If they were good enough for The Beatles and Brian May, they're good enough for us!

Just some of our favourites include the AV30 Analogue Valve Modelling Amp, which is on a great sale price at the moment. The gorgeous limited edition white series includes the AC10C1, one of the first Vox amps ever. Then we have the AC15 Custom Twin, which is a 15W all valve amp, with 2 Celestion Greenback speakers. Or if you're after something BIG then give the AC30C2 a try. We have a Vox amp for every application!

A Legacy of Amplification

It's Music Spot Birthday Time, and guess who's up this week??

If you can guess which Team Member is having their birthday this week, you've won the right to get a free Spot Selfie with him, buy him a cake, sing to him, or just generally make him feel special. If you're really lucky, you might even get to hear him sing ;)

______________________________________________

Continuing with Amplifier Month, we thought this week we'd take a look at another company with a full, rich history of amplification: Fender.

Leo Fender actually started making amplifiers before he started making guitars, way back in 1945. These were tube powered, with solid state models coming later in the 1960s. His first company was the K&F Manufacturing Corporation, with his friend Doc Kauffman. The first Fender amps made in-house were the Woody series, from 1946 to 1948. They included the Model 26 Deluxe, the Princeton, and the Professional. If you happen to have one of these sitting in your garage, lock it up tight - these would be worth a mint today!

Over 70 years later, Fender is still a household name, with a reputation for and commitment to quality that is second to none. New technology and manufacturing processes have ensured that Fender Amplifiers continue to be at the forefront of the music industry, with many professional musicians relying on them. With a range designed to suit any budget, you know that with a Fender, you can't go wrong.

_______________________________________________

So of course that means we keep a good stock of Fender Amps instore here at The Music Spot, in Acoustic, Electric and Bass.

For example, the Champion 20W Combo, easy to use and versatile for any style of music. If you want to stand out, how about the FSR Blues Junior in Candy Apple Red - small and portable, enabling you to work on creating your signature tone. If you've got a bit more bass to boom, there's the Rumble 40W Bass Amp, the newest in the evolution of portable bass amps. Or if classic is more your scene, we have the Super Bassman 300W Head with 1600W 610 Neo Cab, in Blonde / Oxblood style. That will get your sound out there. Excellent quality and excellent prices.

And don't forget, it's Friday:

Not sure who to blame for this one! See you next week!

This week we are celebrating that most revered name in sound amplification, Marshall.

Marshall has a long and rich history, from humble beginnings in 1962 in a music store in London called Jim Marshall and Son. Jim and his team responded to calls for a new type of amplifier by designing the JTM45 amp "Number One", which sold 23 on it's first day instore. In 1965 Pete Townsend asked Jim to design an amp to make his sound "louder", and the Super 100 was born. This came with a massive 8x12" cabinet, to the horror of roadies everywhere, so was soon replaced by two stacked 4x12" cabs - and thus the iconic Marshall Stack entered our lexicon.

Marshall today are still producing brilliant amplifiers and supporting music and musicians in many new and innovative ways. We have a sweet range of Marshall Amps in stock at The Music Spot, so come and try them out today - you never know, you could be the next Pete Townsend, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Slash, Muse, Oasis, Justin Timberlake..

In the middle we have the 1959 SLP 100W Head with the MC1960BV 280W Quadbox, if you need a bit of classic vintage to power your sound.  And then on the end we have the JVM410 100W Head & MX412 Angled Cab, 4 x 12" speakers will blast out your sound and the four independant channels on the head make this 12 Marshalls in one. Everything you need!
