Taylor Guitars, Drums on Sale and a Good Sleep afterwards

Christmas is a distant memory, New Years has all washed away, the kids are back at school and we have all settled into our quiet routines. You know what this needs? DRUMS!

We've decided to liven up the place by having a HUGE Drum Clearance Sale, and you will find some AMAZING deals on all things drums!

when you see it..
We have heavily reduced all our Drum Kits, made some great deals on Shell Packs & Hardware packages, and heavily reduced all our DW Hardware as well. So don't worry about entertaining yourself next time the power goes out - make some noise with these!

Drumming is an incredibly physical activity, great for excercise, but you'd wanna make sure you get a good night's sleep before going on stage. And you want to know a secret to getting the best sleep? Unsuprisingly, it's music! Specifically, Delta Waves.

Music can have a strong influence on the brain
So far in our series on the effects of Music in our lives, we have looked at how it can relax animals, and how it can make us smarter by exercising different parts of our brain, even after we've finished playing. But did you know you can also tap into the incredible power of music to help you get a good night's sleep, when you've been spending way too much time reading Buzzfeed on a bright blue screen?

The answer is Delta Waves. These are what the brain naturally produces when in the deepest part of sleep, the part where the body is healed and rejuvenated, and the part which makes you feel awake and refreshed when you wake up. You can enhance your brain's own production of delta waves by deep meditation, which can be hard to do, or by listening to special tracks that can assist you with relaxation on a deep neural level. Search Binaural Beats on YouTube, or you can try my personal favourite sleeping track, 8 hours of delta waves right here.

Now that we are all refreshed, let's check out what's happening in the store this week. We are going from awesome to awesome in our Acoustic Guitar Month, by swinging right into Taylor Week.

Some of our favourite Taylor Guitars!

We have a great collection of Taylor Guitars instore, and the best part is, they're all on sale!

I chatted to Phil about why he loves Taylor Guitars:

"Taylor is awesome because they are an eco-conscious company with a sustainable timber production mill in Cameroon. Their attention to detail from manufacturing to finishing guitars is second to none. They have some of the best innovative designs and products, and the highest reputation for quality control and customer service. I have a GS Mini, a small compact guitar, but it sounds huge and is so easy to play. Definitely a winner model!"

And while we're getting excited about our sweet Guitars, let's not forget our Friday Funny:

Imho it might be safest to be a Guitar player anyway, just in case ;)

Have a great week peeps and we will catch up next Friday!

True Australian Made Quality - for Brain Power

Can you believe it's March already?? Wasn't it just New Years last week? Well either way the good news is that tomorrow brings around our monthly SaturdayImpactDay, so you can start the new month off right by helping out families in Cambodia get access to clean water.

We here in Queensland have had more water than we know what to do with lately, so it can be hard for us to imagine not having enough - or even just not having access to anything clean enough to drink. But we know that through B1G1 100% of our donations go directly to families that need our help, and that just gives us yet another reason why we love our job here at The Music Spot :)

Just in case you needed another excuse to play your Guitar (or another encouragement to start learning!), we've decided this week to look at some fascinating studies into the effects of playing Guitar on the human brain.
This brain loves a good Strat

It's well documented that music, and in particular playing a musical instrument, is good for your brain development. It helps kids cope better with other subjects at school, and encourages them to form social bonds through learning and playing with others. But did you know that even when you're not playing, your brain is still the better for your having spent those few minutes this morning strumming on your Strat?

According to a recent study at Cambridge University, musicians have mastered a more efficient way of learning, due to the way they learned music: people who play an instrument are able to see concepts and problems as shapes, and engage the more creative parts of the brain in understanding and solving them. Most don't realise this is even happening, it's just a happy side effect of years of training yourself to be creative and expressive through your love of music. So even when you're not playing, you are still working out your brain, and building those beneficial grey matter muscles!

March is Acoustic Guitar month at The Music Spot, and we are kicking the new month off by celebrating our beautiful Maton Acoustics.

Maton has long been one of our favourite brands, due to the exquisite quality of workmanship, and all-Australian timbers and manufacturing. These instruments make beautiful music, and it's always exciting every time one of these goes to a new home, imagining the amazing sounds that are going to be created.

On our Feature Wall we have the Heritage Model ECW80, the M Series Acoustic Electric, the Bluegrass Acoustic Electric, and the beautiful Custom Shop Solid Bunya top with Blackwood Back 7 Sides model. All great deals on great guitars.

Choose a Maton and you will never go wrong!

We had a little trouble coming up with a Friday Funny this week..

Have a great week and keep making beautiful music!

Djembes, Sleepy Puppies and Some Cool New Fenders

Dave and the Music Spot gang have always been huge Fender fans, so when some new guitars drop it's a pretty big deal. So when these babies arrived, they went straight to the Pool Room (read: Sale Wall):
Dave and Sean with some new models
According to Dave: "The new squiers for 2018 have had a serious face lift. Some with matching body to head stock  colours. which is a throw back to some classic 50's 60's USA models. Fat strats, double humbucker Teles and humbucker equipped jazzmasters. Great prices and very cool colours."

Now for a complete change of pace from driving rock guitars, how about some soothing tones to help your fussing fur babies calm down?

We've been looking at the ways that music impacts on people's lives lately, and the amazing benefits it can have on our mood, energy and health. So it's not suprising that the same can be said for our canine (and feline) family members as well.

There's a great YouTube channel that my house makes frequent use of called Relax My Dog, and they have a number of great playlists especially selected to make dogs in any state of agitation relax into a happy, peaceful and usually sleepy mood. This can be great if your pooch suffers from separation anxiety when you go out, or gets a little too happy to see you when you get home, or if they just have trouble getting to sleep at night. They even have a Christmas themed playlist, so we had some very happy puppies in our house this Christmas! You can check out their work at relaxmydog.com. Just another example of the power of music!

This week is Djembe Week at The Music Spot, so you can imagine the vibes!

We have some great Djembes in stock at the moment, like these beauties:

We have the Tycoon Percussion 12" Fantasy Boa Rope Tuned,  the Meinl Headliner 12" Rope Tuned, lots of gorgeously coloured Toca Coloursound mini Djembes, and lots more. You'll have to come down to the shop and have a play for yourself!

How bout an old classic for your Friday Funny:

Have a great week peeps!

Valentines, Bongos and Cold Guitars

Happy Valentine's Week! We just decided amongst ourselves that one day wasn't enough. And we have SO many pretty in pink (and red!) things around the shop!

Happy Valentine's Day!
After all, nothing says "I love you" quite like new music gear!

For something interesting this week, check out this amazing email I got from our very own Dave:

"Just wanted to pass this onto you guys because i think it's an awesome story! One of my customers, Allan is currently working on a station in Antarctica. We have been keeping in touch while he's been down there. He sent me through this photo of his Fender Rumble that i sold him the week before he left. It had to fit inside the blue road case to take it with him to practice and continue writing stuff. He's formed a band down there with a couple of the other folks from the station.   They are called  Dr Al and the Survivors"

Ibanez Bass and Fender Amp from The Music Spot - in ANTARCTICA!!
It's amazing to see how far and wide the spirit of The Music Spot spreads, and how important music is to people in all facets in their lives.

Our favourite stock items this week are our great selection of Bongos and Congas.

Some of our Bongos and Congas instore

Percussion is such a fun area, and this week we are loving our collection of Bongos and Congas. Check out these Tycoon Percussion Congas with their own stand, perfect for beginners and seasoned players alike.

We also have many Bongos to choose from, including these bright red Meinl Headliners, or if you are after something different, these clear acrylic Meinl Headliners will definitely set you apart. Mano Percussion also make great Bongos, like these 7 & 8" Naturals, and if you love the two-tone retro look, these Gewas are brilliant.

Send in your pics and videos, we want to see you having some fun with these babies!

And let's round out the week with some wisdom from our friends the Good Fellas:

(If you can come in and tell us the answer to this, you will get $5 to spend on any guitar in the shop 😂)

Cajon Week at The Music Spot!

The first week of February has gone off with a BANG at The Music Spot! We have been crazy busy with Back To School sales, and have seen lots of happy parents and excited children getting their first instruments and Accessory Packs.

Plus, last weekend we held our monthly SaturdayImpactDay, which was a huge success. We were able to provide 350 days of clean water to families in Cambodia. A great feeling just for doing what we love! So be sure to pop in on the first Saturday of each month to be a part of this great opportunity.

This week we are celebrating all things Cajon! And as you can see from our video, these guys are awesome fun!

To summarise, Cajons are very popular these days in street performances, and can be seen on lots of street corners in capital cities. They make funky music that makes everyone wanna get up and dance. And you can have your very own pro level Cajon by nabbing one of our great deals:

Like this Meinl Headliner. Meinl are a big name in all things Percussion and you know you'e getting a great quality instrument here.

Latin Percussion are also known for great quality instruments, and this LP Black Box Cajon adds a sleek, sexy appearance to a great sound.

Speaking of adding appearance, check out this Tycoon Percussion Artist Series Retro Cajon.  It looks as sweet as it sounds!

If you're after a great quality instrument for a lower price, you can't go past this Tycoon 24 Series Box Cajon.

Dave with our new Tycoon Bubinga with Makah Burl Cajon

All in all, we have your Cajoon needs covered, and if you've never tried one before, I advise you pop into the shop and give them a test run. Music is fun! Enjoy it!
