Gliga Professional Violins

 The Music Spot is proud to announce that we are now a Gliga Gold Level Dealer.

This means that we can now offer you a greater range of professional level Violins from the Romanian master Violin makers.

The Vasile Series

The Gliga Vasile is regarded by many in the trade as a superb instrument for the accomplished player allowing the local dealer to use a variety of components such as bridge type, soundpost positioning and strings to customise it to suit the player’s individual needs.

This level of instrument is the first model to be made within the ‘inner sanctum’ of Gliga’s workshops.  Outstanding tone wood applies at this level and they have been natural dried for many years. The wood is weighed and inspected regularly to gauge the rate of seasoning. The correct level of retained moisture content is vital well before the precious woods are considered for crafting.

We have the Gliga Vasile series full-sized Violin available with a HQ Half-Moon case and an Articul Carbon-Graphite Bow for only $1760.

Gliga I Series

In the Gliga workshop it is only the most experienced builders that practice their hand with the higher grades of wood selected for Gliga I instruments. These expert craftspeople draw on decades of knowledge as they graduate the plates with precision and artfully tune them to produce these fine violins. The traditional oil varnish is carefully hand applied so as not to hinder the instrument in any way, and together these processes result in a rich, well-rounded sound audible to the discerning ear.

Gliga II Series

All timber received into the Gliga workshop is independently graded and allocated to each craftsperson before building begins. Wood that is graded for Gliga II instruments starts to show tighter grain on the spruce for better resonance, and the maple begins to exhibit attractive flame. Naturally the better grades of wood are given to more experienced makers, so more attention can be given to the careful processes of carving and tuning the plates.

The combination of better tone wood and extra care in construction gives the Gliga II a more pleasing tone when put into the hands of the intermediate student. The flamed maple befits the increasing accomplishment of the player, and the variety of oil finishes and antiquing offered allows for freedom of expression and individuality in the recital hall.

Gliga III Series

Each Gliga III's journey starts in the Carpathian Mountains in Europe where legendary wood used by the old master builders is carefully selected before being sent to the Gliga workshops in Romania. There the expert luthiers use traditional methods to construct the body which is finished in a special dark oil varnish developed for the Australian market. Ebony pegs, chinrest, endpin and fingerboard are carefully shaped and fitted.

Upon landing in Australia each violin is inspected before being made into outfits in our warehouse. German Pirastro Tonica strings are added to the outfit along with the Wittner Ultralight tailpiece and French Aubert bridge supplied with the instrument. The strong, hard-wearing FPS woodshell case and FPS brazilwood horsehair bow completes the package.

The careful attention to detail and high quality fittings results in a robust European instrument that provides a student with every opportunity to excel in the difficult early stages of learning.

Gliga St Romani III Series

The St Romani outfit was developed in 2016 to meet growing demand for European instruments in the school and student market. The very same body that the Gliga III is built from has been finished with a hard wearing nitro varnish that stands up better to punishment than it's oil-finished counterpart.

Just like a Gliga III the pegs, fingerboard and chinrest are made from genuine ebony (as opposed to stained hardwood often found in student instruments), the tailpiece is a genuine German-made Wittner Ultralight, and the all important bridge is the same high quality aged maple model from the famous French bridge company Aubert.

Hello! My name is Rhiannon, I'm the brass, woodwind and orchestral strings specialist here at The Music Spot. I have played violin for 17 years and picked up almost the rest of the orchestra along the way.

Currently, I play with the Brisbane Regional Youth Orchestra as Violin 2 Section Leader and love every minute! You can also find me juggling instruments in the orchestra pit from time to time.

I'm excited to bring some class...ical music to the Music Spot team.
