Focus On Banjos, & New Ibanez Electrics

Welcome to a new week!

This week's In Focus is the Banjo, and all the accessories you would need for your Banjo.

Banjos are brilliant and fun Folk instruments and we usually have one or two in stock for you to try out. We currently have this gorgeous Recording King RB-024 model in the shop and on a great sale price as well.

We also have the Tanglewood 5 String Banjo in Natural Gloss, hand crafted in an authentic period design, and sounds amazing.

If you're after an everything-in-one-go type of arrangement, check out the Bryden Banjo Pack. Great quality 5-string instrument with all the accessories added: bag, strap, tuner, strings and picks.

We always keep separate accessories for Banjos in stock as well, like this Shubb Capo that will work for a Banjo, Mandolin or Bouzouki.  If you are after some strings these Rotosound Banjo Strings are great quality for a great price, or if you want the long-lasting quality of Elixir, try these Polyweb Banjo Strings.

We have straps, picks, stands and all the care products you could ever need, so pop into our Browns Plains superstore and check out our range!

What's New?

Exciting news for this week includes five sweet new models of Ibanez Electric and Bass Guitars.

We have the SR200SM Bass, a great entry-level bass with a gorgeous spalted maple top. If you're a KISS fan, you're going to want this Paul Stanley signature series PS40 Electric, which combines all his favourite features in a very affordable package. For the classic rock history buffs, the Talman TM330M brings the best style of the past into today's fresh sound. If hard fast Metal is more your scene, check out this 7 String RG7421, the result of three decades of refining the optimum Metal sound. Finally we have the S521 Mahogany Oil Electric, featuring a mahogany body bolted to a maple Wizard III neck. Beautiful sight and sound.

These babies make nice additions to our extensive Ibanez range, which is growing by the week!

Fact Or Funny

This week we decided to go with a Fact: Where did the Banjo come from?

This is actually somewhat of a sad story. The Banjo first emerged among African slaves in North America in the 1600s, as an adaptation of the stringed lute type instruments in Africa. It became a staple of the minstrel era, but managed to rise above this to become a popular instrument in America. The 1972 movie Deliverance featured the most famous piece, Duelling Banjos, and not a day goes by that we don't hear this in the store :P (not that we don't love it!).

These days Banjos bring to mind lazy summer nights, relaxing country atmosphere, chilling out with good company, and all the things that Music is supposed to bring to our lives. It's great to see things that start off in a bad place rise above their origin, but it's also good to be reminded of the darker parts of our past - as they say, those who don't study history are doomed to repeat it.
