All About That Bass

It's a new month - again! Does anyone else feel like this year is just whizzing by, or is that just me? We are all getting older at what feels like an exponential rate. Time to seize the day, as they say! If there's something you've ever wanted to do, now is the time to go for it. Because one minute you're a baby in a Big Dumper, and the next you're working at a Music shop and married with children of your own ;)

If you can guess which staff member is celebrating his birthday TODAY, then you've won the right to come in and poke fun at him for this adorable picture, which he hasn't actually seen until he opens his emails this morning

One good way to keep the years away from us is to keep fit. And there's no better way to do that than to play a musical instrument. I mean, just look at these fit specimens:

Apart from all the running around and stage antics, the actual act of being a musician, whether you're at gigging stage or sitting in your bedroom picking out notes, has been shown to be better for your health and fitness. No matter which instrument you choose, there is always some level of physical dexterity involved. Take that Bass player above, first of all he needs to pick up that heavy instrument every day, and then use all manner of finger, hand and arm muscles to do his daily practice. And then of course as he gets better at it and local bands start knocking down his door to get him to join, the weekly jam sessions, followed of course by the gigs and crazy stage antics, will have him in tip top shape in no time. That's why the Bass player is always the sexiest member of the band ;)

So August is Bass Month! And we are ALL about that Bass here. We have all the great brands (Fender, Ibanez, Yamaha etc) - but did you know we also cater to specific ends of the market as well? Take these two beauties, who serve very different demographics.

Cort make amazing Basses, we all know that. This A4 Artisan Bass is a beautiful instrument, with a thru-neck construction and open-pore natural finish. The MK1 pickups and EQ deliver an organic piano-type tone, making this Bass sound as professional and high quality as it looks.

But we know that there are curious beginners out there as well, and they don't want to lash out and spend so much on an instrument that they might not stick with. So don't worry, we have your needs covered as well - try this Essex VEP34B beginner Bass. It's a 3/4 size so it's easier for younger / smaller players, and delivers a pleasing tone without breaking the bank. It comes with a gig bag, and looks great in black but also comes in Fiesta Red. Or if you're a beginner looking for the complete package, this Ashton SPA4 Starter Pack also comes with an amp and cable, so you can literally open the box and start playing.
